Big Data Infrastructures

Welcome at the Big Data Infrastructures Research Group (BDI) at the Institute of Computer Science in Vorarlberg (ICV-HSG).

We operate at the intersection of Big Data, Machine Learning, and Large Deep Learning Models. They all require massive amounts of storage, compute, and management. At the BDI-Group, we are focusing on specialized research that lies at the center of these paths, but we're asking: "Do we really need such big models?" and "Is the current approach to increase the width, add more parameters, or multiply the non-linearities really the best approach?". Another area is Specialized Models that are trained not with SGD but with more sophisticated methods.

With our industry partners, we are laying the groundwork for integrating bleeding-edge research into their applied day-to-day Machine Learning pipelines.
